Funding Sources for Child Care

The New England Farm Workers’ Council (NEFWC) is the agency that provides vouchers for child care in Hampden County and Southern Hampshire County.

In order to receive child care subsidies you must place your name on the statewide “Income Eligible Voucher Wait List”. NEFWC manages the wait list for income eligible parents in our area. To find out if you qualify for a voucher, or to be placed on the Income Eligible Voucher Wait List, call NEFWC and ask to speak to the Wait List Specialist. If you are placed on the wait list, you will receive a letter of confirmation in the mail; and you will receive a renewal letter every six months to determine if you still qualify and would like to remain on the wait list. When a slot becomes available, you will be notified.

Springfield area phone number: (413) 272-2207
Holyoke area phone number: (413) 322-0200 (Including Hampshire County towns – Easthampton, Granby, Huntington, Middlefield, Southampton, South Hadley, Ware and Worthington)

Many group child care centers receive Department of Early Education and Care dollars to help parents with the cost of child care for eligible families. As you call the programs to ask if they have an opening for your child also ask if they have funding to help pay for the care.

There are child care systems that receive Department of Early Education and Care dollars to help with the cost of child care for eligible parents. These systems contract with family child care homes in various cities/towns. You will need to put your name on a waiting list that is kept by the agency. They will call you when a slot becomes available. Call P.E.T. at 413-736-3900 or toll free at 877-478-7727 for the list of systems.
